About the event

 

The 2024 IQFOIL Youth & Junior European Championship is much more than just a windsurfing competition. It is an unmissable event for young Olympic sailing, offering a unique spectacle on Lake Serre Ponçon. Organized by the Club Nautique Alpin Serre-Ponçon, this event brings together young talents from the IQFOIL Olympic class, coming from all over the world to compete in thrilling races and exciting challenges.

On the waters of Lake Serre-Ponçon, the championship offers nine days of adrenaline and intense competition. Competitors will have the opportunity to sail in a particular natural setting, where the surrounding mountains offer a setting that will not leave you indifferent, regular wind conditions and a unique playing field.

At the heart of this event, the European Championship will be marked by a major breakthrough in the world of sailing using revolutionary technology: the use of GPS trackers and live broadcasting on the internet. Thanks to this cutting-edge technology, spectators from around the world will have the opportunity to follow the performances of competitors in real time on Lake Serre-Ponçon. GPS trackers integrated into windsurf boards will make it possible to visualize the trajectory and speed of participants, thus offering an immersive and interactive experience. This innovation opens up new perspectives for monitoring competitions and promoting this exciting sport to an ever-widening audience.

 

Program

 

The championship will last nine days, with key moments not to be missed:

Wednesday will mark the official launch of the event with the opening ceremony, including a parade and a presentation of national delegations in the "Theatre de Verdure" in Savines-le-Lac.

The first competitions will begin on Thursday and continue until the following Thursday. Each day will be punctuated by fleet races, offering a variety of formats including slalom, course and marathon (raid). Competitors will have to demonstrate strategy, technique and resilience to prevail in these diverse and demanding events.

Finally, the highlight of the event will take place on Thursday July 11 with the Medal Race, which will see the top 40 competitors compete in a thrilling final race. This last day will also be marked by the awards ceremony, where the winners will be rewarded in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
